Everyone has their reasons for doing the work that they do, whether the reasons can be seen on the surface or a little more digging is required.
Which reasons do you have for doing what you do?
- To make money
- To be famous
- To retire in peace
- To change the world
- To save lives
- To express yourself
- To invent something great
- To kill time
- Just because.
Many things are done for personal reasons, but some are done for totally altruistic reasons.
Think about what would be included on your own list. Then examine at each one on separately. Is your current path going to achieve your lifelong goals or is someone else directing which path you should take?
As the great marketing mind Seth Godin says in his book Linchpin: Are you indispensable?, you should live life to the fullest by being an artist in everything that you do. In thinking like this, you will have the passion and means to create your own path.
This is giving us flashbacks of the classic book 1984, which taught us to open our eyes and rethink everything we’ve been told all along we have to do.
If barriers need to be broken down, break them. Question decisions and make yourself indispensable: a linchpin.
By being a linchpin, you’re no longer doing something ‘just because’. You’re building a case for your indispensability. You’re becoming a better person, for your clients, customers, and yourself.
Anyone can bake cookies. There’s no single recipe. There are a million variations. Gather a few ingredients, mix together and there you go.
Now mind you, making cookies that actually taste good—something that people want to eat, that they’ll want to taste again and again, that’s a little more difficult.
It’s like going online. Everyone is doing it. But rarely do people do it well. It takes time, a well-thought-out strategy and a special ingredient: Innivity.

As you most likely have read about across the web, in the paper and on your late-night television news in the past week, Billy the Gates and Warren ‘The Oracle of Omaha’ Buffet have encouraged 40+ billionaires to give at least half of their wealth to charity when they pass on.

Great thinking guys!
Sure, not all 40 have done it for the same reason, but the fact that billions upon billions of dollars has been committed to improving the lives of those less fortunate (for the most part) is exciting.
Thinking further on the reasons why billionaires would give it up, we’ve come up with this Top 10 List.
1. Just to be nice
2. Tax incentives
3. Peer pressure
4. Legally obligated to do so
5. It’s their charity they’re giving to
6. End hunger/disease
7. Makes them feel good
8. Die knowing that their life was worthwhile
9. Connection with those they’re giving to
10. Just because!

So, why do you give? Why do you not give? Take five minutes today (why not, it’s Friday) and contemplate this.
We’ve all had the countless discussions about the future of print media, most notably newspapers, here in North America.
But what about Canada Post? How will they evolve to meet the growing trend of communicating and marketing with consumers online? And if they can’t evolve, why not just sell the whole shebang now?
Today’s Star takes a look:

If there’s one thing we keep insisting on here at Innivity, it’s starting at the very beginning with a sound strategy. What a beautiful word ’strategy’ is.
Figuring out why you should do something before making a move makes sense.
Why do a media release if you don’t know what your goals are?
Why create a killer headline for an ad if it doesn’t make your target market act?
By answering questions like these before anything else, you’ll help to develop a marketing process that’s sound. And that makes much more sense.
